Off-piste skiing is an increasingly popular and widespread activity, but the relatively easy approach to the slopes should not make skiers forget that they are moving on a potentially dangerous ground, that requires specific competence and a high level of expertise.

Cortina d'Ampezzo, thanks to its strategic position in the heart of the Dolomites, offers a wide range of off-piste skiing itineraries and is the ideal place where to learn the theory and techniques needed to master this amazing discipline.

Information about the off-piste skiing course

Our off-piste skiing course is devised to offer a gradual and conscious approach to this discipline. It provides the theory and skill set needed to learn the specific off-piste skiing techniques and fundamental safety measures on the different terrains and with any snow and weather condition.

The off-piste skiing course is held by a Dolomiti SkiRock Mountain Guide, the course location are the amazing skiing itineraries along the steep slopes, gullies and through the woods that surround Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The course lasts two days and is aimed both at individuals and groups, children and adults.

The off-piste skiing course covers various topics, such as:

  • Skiing techniques: off-piste skiing techniques on any type of snow, freeride turn, jump turn, pivot turn
  • Safety measures: use of the avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe, avalanche self-rescue and search methods, how to safely equip and enter into a steep gully, descent techniques, correct use of crampons and axe
  • Terrain: evaluation of the conditions of the slopes, type of snow and choice of the descent itinerary

At the end of the course, every participant will be given a Certificate of Attendance and a digital photo gallery of their performance and the course most memorable and fascinating moments.
