Mountaineering in the Dolomites: Mount Cristallo 3221 meters, Canale Innerkofler

In this first part of the winter, with poor snowfalls, there are perfect conditions to climb some of the classics ice/mixed routes.

On January 3rd we’ve been on the North side of Mount Cristallo to climb the Innerkofler gully, climbed for the first time by M.Innerkofler in 1887.

The gully runs in the wild north side of the mountain and after the approach along the Val Fonda we climbed the first section on perfect pressed snow reaching the traverse in the middle of the wall. 50 mt to the right and we were in the upper section, steep and narrow until the last 100 meters where with a not easy mixed pitch we sorted out in the sun of the summit.

The descent, following the Normal Route on the South side, completed the travers of the mountain.
