Trekking to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Tre Cime di Lavaredo are among the most beautiful mountains in the world. They are the symbol of the Dolomites and part of UNESCO’s World Heritage; every year they are visited by thousands of visitors from every corner of the world.

They are considered the most famous natural wonder in the world of climbing. Viennese climber Paul Grohmann was the first to reach the summit of the Cima Grande together with the guides Franz Innerkofler and Peter Salcher.

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo are world famous not only because they display such an unforgettable view, but also because the history of classic and modern climbing are written on these faces since the first climb on the Cima Grande by Paul Grohmann on August 21, 1869.

We reach by car the start of the trekking at the Rifugio Auronzo at 2320 meters. We follow the dirt road bordering the south faces reaching a quaint church, a memorial of the Great War.

Shortly after, at the pass, we reach Rifugio Lavaredo where we can get a first glimpse of the spellbinding north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

By following a nice trail bordering Monte Paterno we reach Rifugio Locatelli, a spectacular observation point over the Tre Cime di Lavaredo due to its amazing perspective.

We keep going south towards a small but welcoming lodge on the shore of an alpine lake that reflects the surrounding mountains. Finally, we return to our starting point on an easy trail.
