Trekking to Santuario the Santa Croce in Val Badia

If you want to take an easy excursion at high altitude, immersed in a mystical landscape, between mountains and religion, then you shouldn't miss the excursion to the Abbey of Santa Croce in Val Badia.

Using ski lifts you rise to 2000 metres, where the excursion starts. Going slightly downhill you arrive at a small alpine lake surrounded by fir and larch trees and some birch trees. Continue through the woods along an easy path that slowly climbs towards the impressive rock wall of Sas della Crusc. Vertical wall where there are extremely difficult mountaineering routes that I have repeated several times with mountaineer friends.
After about 2 and a half hours of walking, enjoying a wonderful view of the Badia valley, the Sella mountain group and the Puez plateau, you arrive at the small church which was built almost 600 years ago. In 1484 it was consecrated by the auxiliary bishop of Bressanone and dedicated to the Holy Cross. Scholars assume that the Sanctuary of Santa Croce was a place of pagan worship many years ago, whose construction took place before or shortly after Alta Badia was inhabited.
Nearby there is a refuge where you can stop and taste their typical dishes, it is highly recommended to try the kaisermorn with cranberry jam. After the snack, the excursion continues along the Via Crucis to reach the ski lift and the car again.
