Trekking from the Alpe di Siusi to the Dolomites in Cortina

Dolomiti SkiRock offers a beautiful 5-day trekking leaving from the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest plateau, located in the Sciliar-Catinaccio Natural Park and reaching Cortina d'Ampezzo, along a thrilling itinerary unveiling the beauty of the Dolomites.

The trekking crosses landscapes of incredible beauty, encompassing alpine pastures where cows and horses graze freely in the middle of endless green meadows or the rock landscape where the peaks of the Dolomites reign.

The trekking develops along mountain trails, sandy passes, ledges, and ferratas among the most beautiful and famous in the Alps. Alpine lodges and hotels located in the small mountain villages offer overnight stay along the way.

Program for the trekking from Alpe di Siusi to Cortina

Day 1

The trekking starts in Selva di Val Gardena where we take the Alpe di Siusi cable car up to the Alp. Following easy and flat trails surrounded by splendid green meadows, we reach the start of the great and majestic Sasso Lungo amphitheater that leads us to the pass of the same name. There we find the Demetz Lodge overlooking the Sella Mountain Range and Piz Boe`. We spend the night at the Sella Pass.

Day 2

From the Sella Pass we take the flat trail bordering the North faces of the Sella, reaching the start of the Mesules via ferrata. The ferrata has a challenging beginning, then climbs on vertical faces reaching the great middle ledge, finally leading us easily to the vast Mesules plateau. We traverse it along a trail in the direction of the Maria Lodge, the most beautiful terrace in the Dolomites. We spend the night at the Pordoi Pass.

Day 3

Right after the pass we take the historic Pan trail, one of the most panoramic and spectacular in all the Alpine archway right across from the Marmolada Glacier. After getting to Porta Vescovo, we take the Trenches via ferrata, climbing on characteristic volcanic rock. We spend the night at the Fedaia Pass.

Day 4

We climb along the Marmolada glacier reaching 3300 meters, the highest point in all the Dolomitic range where we can enjoy the incredible view of the whole Alpine archway. We hike down on the normal route reaching Pian dei Fiacconi, going from there to Fedaia Pass by gondola. By taxi service we go to Falzarego Pass where we take the cable car that will take us to the Lagazuoi Lodge, where the sight of the sunset and the sunrise at dawn holds incredible beauty. We stay overnight at the Lodge

Day 5

On the last day we face the Lipella via ferrata leading us to the top of the Tofana di Rozes. This is a beautiful itinerary climbing along the great West face of the Tofana di Rozes through a tunnel dug into the rock by the Italian army during the Great War from 1914 to 1918. The ferrata has a medium level of difficulty and it is perfectly bolted, climbing up to the summit at 3225 meters. From the Tofana di Rozes the view is just great, encompassing the Austrian peaks and the great glaciers in the Alps. On a trail on the opposite side we hike down to the famous Giussani Lodge, managed by our friend Mauro, for a well deserved lunch. We return to Cortina by taxi.
