Sentiero Ferrato to Grotta di Tofana

In the majestic, imposing south face of Tofana di Rozes there is a "secret passage", which has the shape of an ancient keyhole. It is a cave that has formed naturally into the dolomite rock (Dolomia Principale) and stretches out for approximately 300 metres, with a fascinating and unique eight shape.

This is a relatively short but amazing itinerary, especially during the spring season, when the thaw fills the cave with lots of wonderful icy stalagmites.

Information about the Sentiero Ferrato to Grotta di Tofana

The trail, which leads to the foot of the rock face, starts from the mountain hut Rifugio Dibona, 2089 metres a.s.l., is well signposted and includes a very steep and demanding section.

To enter the cave it is necessary to walk on a ledge, which is well equipped with a steel cable and some steps. This path has some weather-beaten parts, but they are not technically challenging nor dangerous.

The excursion duration time is approximately four hours.

The mountain huts along the path and nearby offering facilities and food are the following:

  • Rifugio Dibona
