Sentiero Ferrato Terza Cengia to Pomagagnon

There are five ledges that stretch out across the wide south-east face of Monte Pomagagnon, but only the third one ("Terza Cengia") is entirely accessible, and make it possible to traverse the cliff face from its bottom to the top and reach Punta Erbing (2300 metres a.s.l.).

This is a highly fascinating itinerary, from where the hikers can have an amazing view over the Ampezzo basin and the Boite valley.

The Sentiero Ferrato Terza Cengia is equipped with a steel cable just in a few parts, while the non-equipped sections can be challenging and slippery.

Information about the Sentiero Ferrato Terza Cengia to Pamagagnon

There are different ways to approach to this itinerary: we would like to recommend to you the most panoramic and safe one. Its starting point is the car park Rio Gere, from where the trail 211 begins: go along this trail to reach the hut Malga di Larieto.

Passing the Malga, continue on the trail until you see a large rock on the right side of the path with a bench and a signpost that shows the direction towards Terza Cengia.

Once you get to the foot of the mountain, the trail starts going up along the rock face until it reaches the summit.

The descending northward path leads to the mountain pass Forcella Zumelles. From there, you will continue going down towards South on the long, steep trail 204 that leads you to rejoin trail 211.

The time required to ascend the Sentiero Ferrato is approximately three hours, while the complete excursion duration time is five hours.

The mountain huts along the path and nearby providing facilities and food are the following:

  • Rifugio Rio Gere
  • Malga di Larieto
  • Rifugio Mietres
