Snowshoe Excursion to Monte Gusella

Monte Ra Gusella is the mountain that overlooks Passo Giau between the Nuvolau Mountain Range, 5 Torri, and Monte Averau. It's a watershed between the towns of San Vito di Cadore, Colle Santa Lucia, and Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The approach to the summit by snowshoes starts only from the northern side following an easy itinerary, all the other sides being lined with rocky vertical faces. On the summit an iron statue of the Virgin Mary stands admiringly looking over the great peaks that surround her: Monte Antelao, Pelmo, Civetta, Marmolada and the Tofanas, the highest peaks in the Dolomites.

This is a beautiful and sunny itinerary ideal for picture taking, not too tiring or technical, recommended also to beginners just starting out on this exciting activity.

Information on the snowshoe excursion to Monte Gusella

From the large parking lot in Bai de Dones we take the chairlift up to 2255 meters, reaching Rifugio Scoiattoli. Skirting the ski run that climbs up to Rifugio Averau, we reach a small pass leading to the wide plateau just below the Monte Nuvolau faces.
The trail leaves plenty of choices, offering wide open spaces allowing to pick the ideal line. The descent comes down the up trail to Rifugio Scoiattoli.

We suggest a relaxing stop at Rifugio Averau, which features a beautiful sun deck and one of the best cuisines in the Alpine Region!
