Skiing off-piste down the Joel Couloir in the Sella Group

The off-piste excursion to the Joel Couloir is one of the most famous steep skiing itineraries in the Sella/Pordoi area. It is a spectacular trip, bathed in sunshine, passing through a natural arch, flanked by the vertical faces of the couloir.

The off-piste run of the Joel Couloir is just beautiful, either in winter in soft powder or in spring when the snow turns “firm”.

Information on the off-piste excursion to the Joel Couloir

You reach the start of the off-piste ski run to the Joel Couloir by the Pordoi cable car..

After a short run we reach the Forcella Pordoi Pass. We are on skis from there, cutting across and keeping the same altitude, and we reach the base of the North face of the couloir; then, carrying our skis, we climb for about ten minutes reaching its beautiful entrance.

There we face the breathtaking view of the Marmolada and the impressive North face of the Grand Vernel.

The start is quite peculiar, often including a spectacular view, making the start of the descent the steepest point in the couloir. Skiing off-piste in the Joel Couloir always offers regular yet never extreme slopes.

As we exit the couloir we ski the beautiful slopes flanking the Forcella Pordoi and we reach once again the cable car to go on to other off-piste runs along other marvelous couloirs in the Sella Mountains.
