Skiing in Cortina d'Ampezzo

From the spectacular ski runs it is possible to visit several historic World War I locations on the Lagazuoi mountain or to retrace the Olympic runs from 1956. We can also remember as well great movies shot in Cortina, such as Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone on Monte Faloria, or 007 with Roger Moore on Col Druscé.

There are three great ski areas

The area on Monte Faloria, which is also linked to lifts to Monte Cristallo, offers mostly medium level ski runs starting at the highest point of Tondi di Faloria at 2350 meters. From the terraces of the refreshment areas you can enjoy the spectacular views of Cortina and its surrounding mountains.

The Tofana is a wide ski area ranging from easy runs close to center city Cortina to the technical black diamond runs where the Alpine World Cup events are held, including the coveted Forcella Rossa black diamond run. The spectacular run from Bus de Tofana that reaches down to Cortina from 2700 meters unfolds along 10 kilometers with an elevation loss of 1500 meters!

The ski area around Cinque Torri and Lagazuoi is easier, offering beautiful medium level runs, and is recommended to individuals who want to spend a nice day among mountains and enjoyable breathtaking panoramas. Not to be missed is the Armentarola run, starting from the Lagazuoi mountain at 2800 meters and rolling down gently for 9 km to Rifugio Scotoni. At the end of the run, in order to reach the Val Badia runs and enter the Sella Ronda, a team of horses drags the skiers for 500 meters using long ropes.

All three ski areas feature beautiful lodges with panoramic terraces, great cuisine served with vintage wines. A fast minibus service, free for ski pass holders will take you to all three ski areas.

From Cortina you can reach by car in 40 minutes the Sesto Pusteria ski area, near the Austrian border, facing the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, or the Civetta and Marmolada ski area, reaching 3300 meters, the highest peak in the Dolomites; and, finally, the famous Sellaronda area, crossing over four Dolomitic passes.

Using the Cortina, Marmolada and Sella Mountain lifts, off-piste and free-ride enthusiasts can enjoy over 250 itineraries of skiing along spectacular valleys, passes and steep gulleys available only in the Dolomites.
