Ski Mountaineering to the Merbe Pass in Val Aurina

The ski mountaineering excursion to the Merbe Pass (2828 meters) in Val Aurina is interesting and safe, especially when the snow cover in not yet set in full.

The itinerary for the ski mountaineering excursion starts in a forest, entering then a wide valley, and is never too steep or dangerous.

We descend along wide slopes, gently declining from the fork into a gully enclosed between two rocky vertical faces. The final ski run in a larch and fir forest is pleasant as well.

Information on the ski mountaineering excursion to the Merbe Pass in Val Aurina

We drive up the valley near the town of Predoi, reaching a secondary road on the left taking us to two Tyrolean farmsteads where we leave the car in a small parking lot.

The ski mountaineering excursion in Val Aurina to Merbe Pass starts straight into the woods and leads to an isolated mountain hut, barely visible as soon as you leave the forest.

Then we go through the whole great deep valley to the west taking us to the Merbe Fork which divides the peak of the Pizzo Lungo Mountain on the right from the Merbe Peak on the left, both reaching 3090 meters.

The descent follows along the slopes we took on the way up. The wide and deep valley allows for nice skiing on varied and variously steep slopes down to the Merbe Lodge. In good snow conditions the forest offers a fun ski run to the parking lot as well.
