Ski Mountaineering to Val Setus

The Sella Mountain Range is located among three valleys: Val Gardena, Val Badia, and Val di Fassa. Its highest peak is Piz Boè at an elevation of 3152 meters.

During the winter season this great massif offers a great variety of spectacular ski runs, at different levels of difficulty and length, each one-of-a-kind and easily accessible thanks to the Passo Pordoi cablecar which climbs up to the most panoramic terrace in the Dolomites. From there you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Marmolada, the Sassolungo, Monte Pelmo, Antelao, and the Tofana Range.

The ski mountaineering excursion to Val Setus is surely one of the best ski runs in the entire Sella Range. At first it unfolds along a wide and open valley, continuing inside a narrow and steep gully taking strait down to Colfosco and its ski runs. This excursion is recommended to excellent skiers.

Technical information on the excursion to Val Setus

Taking advantage of the lifts, from Corvara we reach Passo Pordoi, where a modern cablecar will take us to Rifugio Maria at 2950 meters. Straight from the cabin’s terrace, we ski down to the Forcella Pordoi and on to the start of a short climb.

We put our sealskins on and begin a long semi-circular traverse, reaching the Rifugio Boè first. Then we get to the entrance of the valley called Pisciadù, where we often need to overtake a large snow ledge. The Pisciadu' valley is quite wide and a real pleasure to ski.

In proximity of Rifugio Pisciadù we put our sealskins back on and we cross westward until we reach the entrance of the Val Setus couloir. The first part is quite steep and narrow, while the second part is less challenging and offers a fun and relaxing ski run.
Once we reach the ski runs, we return to our starting point using lifts.
