Ski mountaineering on Monte Rosa

Dolomiti SkiRock offers a ski mountaineering three-day tour of Monte Rosa, crossing the entire Monte Rosa range from Cervinia and back.

The ski mountaineering on Monte Rosa is set to climb at least two peaks above 4000 meters in elevation, Monte Braithorn at 4165 meters and Punta Gnifetti at 4554 meters, where Capanna Margherita, the highest mountain lodge in Europe, is located.

The long descent on the Grenz Glacier, down to Zermatt, the famous Swiss resort town, makes this ski mountaineering adventure on Monte Rosa extremely beautiful and satisfying for skiing and for enjoying the views as well.

Schedule for the ski mountaineering tour of Monte Rosa

Ski mountaineering on Monte Rosa: Day 1
We meet in Cervinia at 10 am
We reach Plateau Rosa by lifts
Excursion to the top of the Western Braithorn at 4165 meters
Descent and overnight stay at the Guide d'Ayas Lodge at 3394 meters

Elevation gain 640 meters
Elevation loss 771 meters
Total time for the excursion: about 4 hours
Level of difficulty: Good mountain skier

Ski mountaineering on Monte Rosa: Day 2
Descent along the beautiful Verra glacier valley.
Ski mountaineering to the Bettolina Pass at 3100 meters and descent along sunny slopes until we reach the lovely town of Gressoney.
We reach Punta Indret at 3357 meters by lifts.
Ski mountaineering to the lodge at 3647 meters and overnight stay.

Elevation loss 1,460 meters
Total time for the excursion: about 5 hours
Difficulty level: Good mountain skier

Ski mountaineering on Monte Rosa: Day 3
We leave at dawn and climb the glacier up to Col del Lys, where the Grenz glacier begins.
After a long crossing along the final steep slope, we reach Punta Gnifetti at 4554 meters, where the famous Capanna Margherita Lodge is located.
Spectacular descent along the Grenz glacier, passing directly below the vertical north face of Lyskamm, down to Zermatt.
We reach Plateau Rosa by lifts and we descend back to Cervinia.
