Ski Mountaineering from Lago di Braies to Col de Riciogogn

This ski mountaineering excursion starts on the frozen Lago di Braies, featured in the popular Italian TV Series “Ad un passo dal cielo”. It follows a circular route that unfolds within the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park and up to the summit of Mount Riciogogn.

The excursion we offer progresses in the magnificent surroundings of the Dolomites among valleys, rocky faces and pointed peaks. At the top of Col de Riciogogn, a splendid view opens up to a wide plateau surrounded by overwhelming mountains such as the Croda Rossa. Monte Cristallo, the Three Tofanas, Monte Vallon Bianco and the 3000-meter high Lavarella Mountain.

Information on the ski mountaineering excursion from Lago di Braies to Col de Riciogogn

This ski mountaineering excursion at Lago di Braies starts from the large toll parking lot at Braies where we begin crossing the frozen lake and we enter the Val Foresta woods.

We overcome a steep stretch, then we turn left climbing along the large Sennesertal valley leading to Forcella de Riciogogn at an elevation of 2331 meters. In order to reach the summit of Col de Riciogogn, we climb by zigzagging along the south eastern slope which leads us first to the pre-summit, then following a long traverse we get to the summit itself at 2654 meters.

From the summit we drop down to the Forcella Sennes which allows us to enter a magnificent natural amphitheater that faces North and leads us to Val dei Lerici. Following the valley, we gently come down surrounded by beautiful landscapes as we return to the frozen Lago di Braies.
