Ferrata Tomaselli to Punta Fanis Sud

The Via Ferrata Cesco Tomaselli is a difficult and demanding path, one of the most challenging itineraries of the Ampezzo basin as for technical skills and physical fitness required.

The itinerary stretches out on the beautiful south-western rock face of Punta Fanis Sud, from where is it possible to enjoy a breath-taking view of the Gruppo di Fanes peaks (northwards) and the majestic Tofane (eastwards). From the summit the view is even wider, it encompasses Monte Pelmo, Monte Civetta, Marmolada, the Sella group, the Pale di San Martino group and all the other main Dolomites peaks.

Information about the Via Ferrata Cesco Tomaselli

The via ferrata begins with a highly challenging part, then it stretches out on a vertical rock face which is highly exciting for its exposure. The descent is demanding as well, it is still a ferrata equipped path that leads to Selletta Fanis.

The via ferrata is well-equipped with a steel cable along the whole ascent and descent path and with pitons placed at the right distance from one another, in order to assure the utmost safety. The overall elevation gain is 300 metres.

The excursion starting point is Passo Falzarego, where it is possible to take the Lagazuoi cable car. From the cableway arrival point follow the signposted trail to reach Bivacco della Chiesa. Il rientro si può effettuare riprendendo la funivia o scendendo a piedi lungo il sentiero fino al Passo Falzarego.

The excursion overall duration time may vary from six to seven hours, while the time required to complete the via ferrata ascent is approximately three hours and a half.

  • Rifugio Lagazuoi
  • Ristorante da Strobel
  • Rifugio Col Gallina
