Ferrata Strobel to Punta Fiames

The Via Ferrata Albino Michielli is one of the Classic Routes of the Ampezzo basin. From the climbing path, it is possible to enjoy one of the most beautiful view over the town of Cortina and the whole Boite valley.

The via ferrata climbs up the west face of Punta Fiames to reach the summit of the peak, which looks a bit like a ship bow heading towards Cortina.

The overall elevation gain of this itinerary is 1000 metres: it is a demanding itinerary, suitable for expert and physically fit hikers.

Indicazioni sulla Ferrata Strobel

The Via Ferrata Strobel is a path of average difficulty, it stretches out mainly on ledges and wide rock faces and includes some weather-beaten but still completely safe pitches.

The itinerary starting point is Fiames and its first part is a steep trail among the mountain pines that leads hikers to the via ferrata. From the summit, you can go back descending along a trail (which in some parts is not very well traced) that reaches the Forcella Pomagagnon, from where a long but enjoyable scree slope will lead you to the foot of the cliff face and then to the excursion starting point.

The time required to complete the ascent of the Via Ferrata Strobel is approximately two hours and a half, while the excursion overall duration time may vary from five to six hours.

The mountain huts along the path and nearby offering facilities and food are the following:

  • Ristorante Fiames
