Via Ferrata for Peace to the Furcia Rossa

This long and technical itinerary follows the history of the Great World War, along the rocky ridges of the Furcia Rossa Massif which is the watershed between the Cortina d'Ampezzo township in the Veneto region and the San Vigilio di Marebbe township in Sudtyrol.

Although the Via Ferrata for Peace is not too long, it offers some very interesting stretches, along several ridges either natural or dug by the Austrian Army. A few vertical and exposed stretches are handled by climbing on iron ladders or pickets bolted into the rock.

nformation on the Via Ferrata for Peace to the Furcia Rossa

We offer a tour that leaves Cortina by rented jeep with driver and takes you along the beautiful Val di Fanes up to the entrance of the Fanes, Senes and Braies Natural Park.

We then proceed on foot on a dirt road that reaches the Fanes Malga Grande and we climb on the Friedensweg trail towards the Furcia Rossa peaks.

It is possible to follow a very interesting variation by climbing to Vallon Bianco. There we find Austrian military posts still untouched and artifacts rarely found in other locations.

Once we reach the ridge we follow the trail leading to the Peace Bivouac at 2760 meters and next climb to Monte Cavallo up to 2912 meters.

The descent along trail #17 towards Val Travenanzes requires attention, especially at the start, as the terrain is subject to landslides and it often hides the trail.

After we reach Val Travenanzes we descend gently to Fiames.
