Cortina snowshoe trekking to the Great Giau Wall

In the middle of a large forested area we find the Giau Lodge, now open also for winter.

The itinerary for the snowshoe trekking leaves from the lodge itself, following a historical route dating back to 1753: a great stone wall built in just six months and still visible today, it used to divide the land belonging to the Great Republic of Venice from the Austrian Empire and lasted until 1918, when Cortina was annexed to Italy.

Information on the Cortina snowshoe trekking to the Great Giau Wall

From Cortina, we drive up the main road taking to Giau Pass, up to the sign indicating the Giau Lodge.

From the lodge, we proceed into the woods on snowshoes until we take a glimpse at the wall that we are going to follow, up to the base of the great rock of the Becco Muraglia. Then the trek continues along a wide ridge, beneath the walls of the Monte Ra Gusella.

We return along fun slopes gently descending to the lodge, where we can taste its delicious cuisine and drink a good beer.
