Cortina Ski Tour

The town of Cortina D'Ampezzo has become famous worldwide also because of the 1956 Winter Olympics. That edition of the Winter Olympics is a historical landmark for two main reasons:

  • the event was broadcast live for the first time by RAI, the Italian state broadcasting company
  • during the opening ceremony, the athletes' oath was pronounced by a woman for the first time in the history of the Olympics

The town of Cortina has frequently been chosen by worldwide famous movie directors and actors as the location for movie scenes set on the ski slopes during the winter:

  • in the '20/'30s Luis Trenker filmed here some scenes of his movie "Berge in Flammen" (Mountains on fire), a war movie about the First World War
  • in the '70s Roger Moore came to Cortina, to shoot some scenes of the James Bond movie "For your eyes only"
  • in the '80s and '90s the Italian directors Carlo and Enrico Vanzina set in Cortina the movie series "Vacanze di Natale" (Christmas holidays)
  • in the '90s is the turn of Silvester Stallone, playing the main role in "Cliffhanger", as a mountain guide
